Two Failed IUI Attempts Elsewhere Due to Borderline PCOS, But Successfully Conceived with ICSI at Beyond IVF!

At just 32 years old, this patient had been trying to conceive naturally for four years without success. During this time, she sought fertility treatment at another clinic and underwent two rounds of IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), but unfortunately, both attempts failed. Determined to find a more effective solution, she researched cases of successful pregnancies in women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and came across positive reviews of Dr. Ton Poonsak at Beyond IVF.

After an in-depth consultation, Dr. Ton recommended a thorough health evaluation before proceeding with treatment. Based on her previous unsuccessful attempts and her nearing PCOS diagnosis, he advised against trying IUI again, as the chances of success were minimal. Instead, he recommended ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) combined with chromosomal screening (NGS) to maximize the chances of a successful pregnancy.

The first round of ovarian stimulation yielded only six mature eggs, with just two embryos reaching the blastocyst stage. Unfortunately, none of them passed chromosomal screening. Not giving up, the patient underwent another round of ovarian stimulation, this time producing 11 mature eggs. Again, only two embryos developed to the blastocyst stage, but this time, one embryo passed chromosomal screening.

With renewed hope, she decided to proceed with a fresh embryo transfer immediately. Throughout the process, Dr. Ton carefully monitored her hormone levels, making adjustments as needed. Finally, after 21 days, an ultrasound confirmed the presence of a gestational sac—she was pregnant!

Treatment Approach: ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) at Beyond IVF

Specialized Techniques Used:

ICSI: A precise technique where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg, improving fertilization rates.
NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing): Chromosomal screening to ensure only healthy embryos are transferred, reducing the risk of miscarriage.

Her Thoughts on Beyond IVF:

"After trying different clinics and almost losing hope, I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Ton and the Beyond IVF team. Their expertise and personalized care made our dream come true. I also appreciate the in-depth knowledge I received about PCOS, which helped me make an informed decision about ICSI. Thank you so much!"

When to seek advice early

  • If you have polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, or have been through a cancer diagnosis; we recommend you get in touch quickly so we can talk you through all your options and give you the greatest possible chance of success.
  • If you’re a single woman considering motherhood in the future; it’s best to approach us early and consider egg freezing as this can be an option for you while you have a higher ovarian reserve and healthier eggs.

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
