Hello, my name is New. I underwent ICSI treatment with Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF. Currently, my baby is 4 months old. Her name is Ta-Nerng.

What fertility problems did you have?

I tried to conceive naturally for many years until my first son grew up, but the second child never came. I wanted to consult with Dr. Ton because I thought I definitely had a problem. So, I came to see Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF and received a lot of good advice from him.

Did you feel pressured during the treatment?

No, not at all. Dr. Ton never made me feel pressured. Everything was very comfortable.

Was there any step you were most afraid of?

The anesthesia for egg retrieval.

How did you feel when you found out you were pregnant?

On the first day I found out I was pregnant, I was very happy to know I was going to have a baby. But I had to take good care of myself a little since it was through ICSI.

Do you have any advice for people struggling with infertility?

ICSI is not scary at all. You can come to consult the doctor first. Dr. Ton is very kind and gives clear advice and great recommendations. The procedure is not difficult. Dr. Ton explains everything very clearly. Just try consulting first.

Any tips from you as a mom?

You need to rest a lot at the beginning and gradually start walking. Take good care of your pregnancy because you’re afraid of losing the baby.

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
