High Male Hormones & Near PCOS Successfully Conceived with ICSI at Beyond IVF!

At just 24 years old, this patient had been trying to conceive naturally for over a year without success. Despite her young age, she was already showing signs of infertility. Before consulting Beyond IVF, she learned that she was at risk of developing PCOS and had to take hormone-regulating medication regularly. In her search for successful pregnancy cases involving PCOS, she discovered numerous success stories from patients treated by Dr. Ton Poonsak at Beyond IVF.

After deciding to seek consultation, a hormone check revealed that she had high male hormone levels, which made conception difficult and confirmed her PCOS risk. Dr. Ton recommended ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) as the best option, as IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) would likely be ineffective in her case. The patient immediately proceeded with ovarian stimulation.

Following 10 days of stimulation, an ultrasound showed that she had 30 mature eggs, a high number for a PCOS patient. After retrieval, 14 embryos successfully developed to the Blastocyst stage (Day 5). She opted for NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) screening, which revealed that 9 embryos were chromosomally normal. The patient and Dr. Ton carefully selected the highest-quality embryo for transfer.

18 days after the transfer, an ultrasound confirmed the presence of a gestational sac—she was pregnant!

Special Techniques Used:

ICSI – Direct sperm injection into the egg for a higher success rate
NGS – Chromosome screening to ensure healthy embryos

Patient’s Experience at Beyond IVF:

“Thank you so much, Dr. Ton! If I had waited longer, conceiving would have been even harder.”
“The treatment at Beyond IVF was excellent—safe, easy to understand, and not scary at all.”
“Dr. Ton and the entire staff took such great care of me throughout my journey.”

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
