Pregnant at 36! Successfully Conceived with ICSI at Beyond IVF

This case involves a woman who had been trying to conceive naturally since marriage but remained unsuccessful as she reached 36 years old. Realizing she was entering the age of infertility, she decided to explore assisted reproductive technologies. After researching successful cases of women around her age, she found Dr. Ton Poonsak Suchonwanich at Beyond IVF, a specialist in fertility treatment. Many support groups also highly recommended him for infertility treatment.

She consulted with Dr. Ton, underwent a medical examination, and expressed her desire to proceed with IVF along with NGS screening to check embryo chromosomes. Through her extensive research, she learned that one major cause of infertility could be chromosomal abnormalities in embryos, making natural conception difficult. Dr. Ton confirmed that ICSI was the best option and recommended NGS screening.

After 12 days of ovarian stimulation, she underwent egg retrieval, collecting 29 eggs. Despite the large number, only 12 embryos developed into the blastocyst stage (Day 5 embryos). She proceeded with chromosome screening, which revealed only 3 normal embryos. She was relieved, realizing that without this process, natural conception might have continued to fail due to undetected chromosomal issues.

Dr. Ton and the patient decided to transfer two embryos based on her test results. After the transfer, she had regular blood tests every three days to monitor hormone levels and adjust medications accordingly. Finally, 18 days post-transfer, the ultrasound confirmed two gestational sacs—Dr. Ton officially confirmed "Twin pregnancy!"

Patient underwent ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) treatment.

Additional Special Techniques:

  • ICSI – A specialized technique using a high-resolution microscope to inject sperm directly into the egg, increasing the success rate.

  • NGS – Chromosomal screening to detect abnormalities in embryos before implantation.

Patient's Experience at Beyond IVF:

"Dr. Ton is truly amazing! He made my dream of pregnancy come true. Beyond IVF is an excellent fertility center with everything I needed—convenient, comfortable, and easily accessible."

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
